Mike (09/01/1991) grew up in Aberporth in West Wales. At the age of 18 he moved to Cardiff to study Modern History and Politics at Cardiff Metropolitan University. This was where his journey with Team Thie began. At the age of 23 he joined the RAF as an FOA. Recently he has been granted ‘Elite Athlete Status’ by the RAF which will allow him the time to train as a full time athlete over the next couple of years as he strives to achieve the Welsh Marathon standard for the 2018 Commonwealth Games.
As a junior Mike ran for Wales on the track, road, cross country and the mountains. In 2009 he ran as part of the Bronze Medal winning British team at the European Mountain Championships. He finished 13th at this event and later that year went on to represent Great Britain once again at the World Mountain Running Championships.
In recent years Mike has focused his attentions on longer road events often competing for Wales or the RAF. After finishing 3rd at the 2015 Manchester Marathon and then 2nd at the Snowdon Marathon he was selected to represent GB at the World 50K Championships where he finished 8th.
2016 has been a good year as Mike has improved his pb’s running 29.46 for 10K, 66.48 for the half marathon and 2.21.38 for the marathon.
