About

Team Thie is an international training group based in Cardiff. The elite athletes make up one of the most successful training groups in the UK.

The Team trains all over South-West Wales, however, the majority of their track sessions are done at Cardiff International Sports Stadium.

TeamThie was founded by James Thie, a self-coached athlete with a career spanning over 25 years. His highlights include major championship finals such as World, European and Commonealth Games 1500m.

He is the current World Masters Indoor 800m, 1500m and 3000m Champion.

In late 2007, David Bishop approached James for some coaching advice. He would be James' first athlete and the beginnings of Team Thie. Bishop set a three-second 1500m personal best and made the final of the UK U23 1500m that summer before jetting off to the States on a Scholarship.

By the end of 2008, a number of distance athletes attending the local University, Cardiff Met, had approached James for coaching and he soon had a small group beneath him.

Team Thie had soon won multiple national age group and University medals, in addition to some home international representation.

TeamThie has five Great British internationals, a UK senior champion, multiple UK medallists, age-group national champions/medallists and many home international representatives. There has also been multiple Team Thie All-Americans in the NCAA. Last summer, Bitchell and Bishop competed in the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.

Team Thie hopes to add sponsorships to the Team's current partners. Coach Thie's specific goals are:

  • Qualify athletes for Rio 2016
  • Qualify a minimum of 6 athletes for 2018 Commonwealth Games
  • Keep all athletes healthy and happy, allowing them to continually improve physically, emotionally and professionally
